Smith & Nephew eyes acquisitions

Smith & Nephew CEO Olivier BohounThe boss of orthopaedics giant Smith & Nephew said the company was on its way to becoming a high-growth business, with a number of “disruptive” product launches planned for the year, in areas such as biological wound care and sports medicine surgery.

Olivier Bohuon said a new version of the company’s Journey knee replacement technology will launch in the US this year, alongside a new model of its Renasys wound care product. The updated gadget, which creates a vacuum over an oozing wound to speed up healing, will be smaller, easier to use and contain wireless technology to communicate with doctors.

Smith & Nephew snapped up five companies last year and Mr Bohuon said it would continue its acquisition spree this year.
