These Doctors Are Incorporating VR Into Pain Management

496165-doctorWhen reality is literally too painful to bear—perhaps you’re a wounded soldier returning from active duty, covered in head to toe burns, or recovering in an isolation room after complex and invasive surgery—some forward-thinking medical professionals are dialing down the pain meds and testing what’s known as “Clinical VR” to help patients cope.

Over 100 medical and technology professionals met in Los Angeles recently for an all-day workshop partly sponsored by the MayDay Fund, to examine the latest research in this emergent field. PCMag went along to learn more (and got a chance to virtually swim with dolphins, too).
