Our kid has not been subtle about his impatience with me during our hiatus from playdough surgery. When he brought me a handful of tools from his toy toolset this week, I braced myself for our next orthopedic case 🔨
.
This is an extremely simplified version of a total knee replacement, which is a technically meticulous procedure requiring careful measurements followed by precise cuts to ensure restoration of mechanical alignment.
.
Fun fact: knee prostheses are cemented into place with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) cement, which is the same material used as an injectable dermal filler (Bellafill, Artecoll) and also for various applications within dentistry.
